NRA Basic Pistol Class

This class is appropriate for new handgun owners and those who wish to up date their skills. It targeted at those not familiar with Pistols and the safe operation of pistols. Many use it as a “refresher class” if they have been out of shooting for a while.

NRA Basic Pistol training is presented at the Fin & Feather Club of Mason County by NRA Certified Instructors. The class fee is $20.00, which includes the study guide and use of the Fin & Feather range facility.

The class covers basic safety, handgun care and cleaning, as well as basic firing skills. A minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition will be required for each participant. A limited number of handguns are available for use in the class with advance arrangement.

The class is open to adults, male and female, who are legally qualified to own/purchase a handgun. Range space is limited and advance registration is required. These classes are conducted on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. The class includes the classroom work, range firing experience and certification testing.

CPL Training

The Fin and Feather Club has a group of seven Certified Instructors who conduct the State of Michigan program that is required for application for a Michigan CPL.

These classes are usually done on a Friday evening (6:00p.m. to 9:30p.m.) and Saturday (9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.), and are limited to 20 participants per session. ADVANCED REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Classes will start in the Spring.

The cost is $50.00 for members and $100.00 for non-members, which includes training text books, targets, use of the range facility and classroom. A minimum of 98 rounds of ammunition are fired as part of this training.

You must attend both the Friday and Saturday sessions and complete and pass the written test to be issued a certificate of completion and compency. Successful completion of the class and certification test will provide you with the certificate required to apply for a Michigan CPL.
